Present
The restoration was finished at the end of 2009, the plantation house and all other buildings were renovated and restored to their original condition.
The restoration cost Fl. 3.500.000 in total and it took 17 months to be completed; though it took 4 months longer than expected, the results are staggering and spectacular, a perfect home for museum Savonet. You can compare the results on the pictures below.
The restoration process revealed a lot of new information on the history of the buildings and the life of the people who lived in and around it. During the restoration it was discovered that the plantation was originally painted white.
The team also stalled on a few objects in the landhouse, like an old copper coin of 1828. This coin was found in a window in the house and was probably lost by someone about 150 years ago.
At the moment the team of the Savonet Museum is working on the exhibitions of the museum. At the moment the team is busy developing documentaries about life on and around the plantation.
Beside the cultural-historical elements the museum will also contain the natural-historical part in the former large storage area called “mangasina” locally. This part will open later this year.
